The Outgoing President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of Accra Technical University (ATU), Terry Ofori Baffour, has bemoaned the long neglect of Ghana’s agriculture sector.

He is, therefore, calling on the government to focus more on the agricultural sector, especially agribusiness.

According to the ATU SRC President, it is sad to note that common foodstuffs like plantains, onions, tomatoes, etc., which can be easily cultivated everywhere on Ghanaian soil are all imported.

“And one of the areas where we have to address is to reduce the import dependency that we have as a country,” Baffour said on Wednesday when he appeared on GTV’s Breakfast Show.

He explained that the country’s agriculture sector has not received the needed investment.

“As the global economy is going to realign to the new reality with more self-reliance, Ghana cannot be left behind.

We need to invest heavily in terms of infrastructural development and machinery to produce what we eat as well as export some to strengthen our foreign reserves,” Baffour reiterated.
