Youth of Nyamekrom demonstrate over poor nature of roads
By Michael Kofi Kenetey
As a way of registering their displeasure due to the deplorable nature of the road network and the poorly constructed bridge in their area, the youth of Nyamekrom in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern region have blocked the road leading to the community.
They accused the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi; the MCE for New Juaben South, Isaac Apawu-Gyasi; and the government of deceiving them and expressed their disappointment in the government for abandoning the road construction after the sod-cutting two years ago.
The youth prevented vehicles from entering into and leaving the Community to Koforidua.
It took the intervention of the personnel of the Ghana Police Service before vehicles were allowed to ply the road.
In an interview with the GBC, the leader of the youth, Desmond Ameyaw, lamented that the abandoned bridge has become a death trap, putting the lives of the people in danger.
The Assemblyman of Nyamekrom Electoral Area, Enoch Boahen, in an interview, also corroborated the assertions.
