Clear goods expeditiously to avoid demurrage

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, GSA, Benonita Bismarck has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies as well as State Owned Enterprises, to as a matter of urgency take action to ensure that consignments are expeditiously cleared from the ports to avoid demurrage.
This she indicated will go a long way to mitigate the use of State resources for such avoidable costs.
Speaking at a seminar on demurrage for shippers in Accra, Madam Benonita in message presented by Head of Shipper Services and Trade Facilitation at the Authority, Mrs. Monica Josiah said ”there are currently about 500 containers with demurrage worth more than five thousand days are to be paid on”.
A situation, she described as worrying considering the economic conditions of the time.
Mrs. Monica Josiah said the Shippers Authority is however not resting on its oars to ensure that demurrage is reduced to its barest minimum, adding that a lot of progress has been made since the Authority started its campaign in 2018.
