Policeman guns down colleague during heated argument in Abia
The Abia State Police Command have confirmed that one Inspector Ugwor Samuel, has been shot dead by his colleague.
The shooting incident occurred following an altercation between the two policemen over an undisclosed issue in Umuahia, the state capital.
According to the police, both officers were attached to a member of Abia State House of Assembly representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe.
The State Command spokesperson, Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident, saying the victim, Inspector Ugwor Samuel, was shot dead by his colleague, Inspector Atule Benedict.
An eyewitness said that after the incident, efforts to disarm the assailant police inspector, who was said to have gone berserk, threatening to kill anybody who came his way, failed.
The source also claimed that the suspect escaped with his AK-47 rifle to an unknown destination, but later handed himself over to the State CID Umuahia.
The Police PRO who described the shooting as quite ‘unfortunate and discreditable’ confirmed that the erring policeman was in custody, while the deceased body has been deposited in the morgue.
Ogbonna noted that the case was under investigation by SCID Umuahia.
