A Plus slams Manhyia over Oyerepa FM’s closure
A Plus, also known as Kwame Asare Obeng, is a Ghanaian performer and social critic.
Along with others, he has denounced the Kumasi Traditional Council’s choice to outlaw Oyerepa FM.
A Plus claims that it was improper for the Kumasi Traditional Council to reject a radio station.
The controversial entertainer issued the following statement on his Facebook handle: “If the Ga traditional council or the Volta regional house of chiefs close down a media house because they have been accused of a crime on their platform, this country will be ungovernable. This is not right.”
His response comes after the Kumasi Traditional Council issued an order to the management of the Oyerepa FM and TV station situated in Kumasi to temporarily suspend operations beginning today, Friday, August 26, 2022.
In addition, the traditional council is requesting an unreserved apology from the management of the station for the statements made on its platform by Akwasi Addai Odike, the leader and founder of the United Progressive Party.
An investigative journalist by the name of Manasseh Azure Awuni has also weighed in on the topic, and he has spoken out against the move made by the Kumasi chiefs.
Awuni contends that the council cannot be responsible for shutting down a radio station since it is forbidden by the constitution.
