Father Arrested After His NINE-Year-Old Son Drives To School
Police in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, stopped a nine-year-old boy on his way to school while he was wearing his school uniform. His father was riding in the front passenger seat.
Police gave chase as the boy accelerated after being stopped and the saloon car was halted before it entered a private school in Athi River, on the outskirts of the city.
He discovered his little sister seated in the back, likewise wearing a school uniform.
Under Kenyan law, a person cannot drive if they are under the age of 18.
On one of the busiest roads in the nation, the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, the child was allegedly speeding.
The father was arrested following the incident on Wednesday, but the two children were later taken to school in a police vehicle, the Daily Nation newspaper reports.
“This action, which is not only irresponsible but also contravenes traffic laws, exposed the minor and other road users to grave danger,” police tweeted, saying the father would be taken to court.
“The suspect further acted against the Children Act that vests statutory parental responsibility on the protection of children from harm and danger.”
